Working offshore on oil rigs brings much benefits such as:
excellent earning opportunities, paid food and accommodation which meet the hotel standards, medical insurance, paid travel expenses, advancement possibilities, attractive work schedule, making new friends etc.
On the other hand these jobs are not for everyone. They are pretty demanding, include hard work in all kinds of weather conditions and sometimes in dangerous situations. You will be miles away from home for a long periods, maybe you won't be even in sight of land.
You need to be in good physical conditions. Before employment you will be required to pass thorough physical and health examination and drug testing.
There are many available positions on oil rigs for all levels of educations, from those which does not require any particular qualifications to engineering and managing positions which require higher levels of education as well as great offshore experience.
You may apply if you don't have experience in oil industry at all. Entry level positions are roustabout, roughneck, deckhand, oiler, welder helper, painter, galley hands etc.
Of course the more experience you have the better are chances to get a job and more money you will earn.
Work schedule on oil rigs is such that you will spend as much time on work as off work, ie. 7/7, 7 days on and 7 off or 14/14, 21/21 or 14/21 on some very hard jobs. That mean that you will have a few holidays a year but when on work you'll be working 12 hours a day.
